GTA 6 delays: every release date given so far, and when each one changed
Three dates, in order: 2025 at the reveal, then May 26, 2026 alongside Trailer 2, then November 19, 2026 — the date the stores and Rockstar's own site carry today.
Last updated
Every date below comes from Rockstar or from its parent company on the record. Nothing here is a rumour about a window that was never published.
First date: 2025
Take-Two's press release of 2023-12-05, titled “Rockstar Games Announces Grand Theft Auto VI, Coming 2025”, said the game was coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.
Sam Houser, Founder of Rockstar Games, framed it in that release as a game that continues the studio's efforts to push the limits of what is possible in highly immersive, story-driven open-world experiences.
The same release placed the game in the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.
Second date: May 26, 2026
On 2025-05-06, Take-Two published “Rockstar Games Releases Trailer 2 for Grand Theft Auto VI”, and that release carried a firm date: set to launch on May 26, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with wishlisting coming to both the PlayStation and Microsoft Stores.
That was the release announcing Trailer 2 was now playing everywhere.
Current date: November 19, 2026
Rockstar moved the date again in a Newswire post titled “Grand Theft Auto VI is Now Set to Launch November 19, 2026”, dated 2025-11-06.
Take-Two repeated that date when pre-orders opened: launching November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, at $79.99.
Rockstar's own site carries the same line today — Coming November 19, 2026 — and the store listings are marked as pre-orders with a release date of 2026-11-19.
Wikipedia's infobox for the game lists the same release: 19 November 2026.
The three dates, side by side
| Date given | Said when | Where |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 | 2023-12-05 | Take-Two press release, at the reveal |
| May 26, 2026 | 2025-05-06 | Take-Two press release, with Trailer 2 |
| November 19, 2026 | 2025-11-06 | Rockstar Newswire, still current |
For scale on why each move is treated as news at all: the previous game in the series is the one Take-Two keeps citing in its own releases.
In its reveal release, Take-Two noted that Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 190 million units to date.
